Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary however, if you
select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually
have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or
immediate burial. Embalming is a chemical process which restores a natural appearance to the body and eliminates
many health hazards. It is only done by those licensed to do so. Our facilities, equipment, and licenses are
inspected on a regular basis by the State of Washington Department of Professional Licensing, the Tacoma-Pierce
County Department of Public Health, and the City fire department.
